MANCHESTER, CT — A 49-year-old Ellington man perished in a single-car crash Wednesday on a stretch of Interstate 84 in Manchester, state police said. State police said the crash took place at 9:50 a.m. on the eastbound side of the highway, just before the Exit 62 off-ramp. According to a crash report, a 2002 Buick Park Avenue driven by Ellington resident Michael Burns was in the HOV lane and suddenly veered onto the grass median to the left. The Buick then skidded along the grass and rammed into a concrete bridge support, according to state police. Burns was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a crash report. State police were still investigating the cause Thursday afternoon and were asking for witnesses to come forward, particularly those with dashboard camera footage. Anyone with information on the crash can contact Trooper First Class John Wilson at 860-534-1098, or [email protected]. Burns was listed as the only occupant of the car.
