Press release from the Wright County Government: July 29, 2021 The weekly U.S. Drought Monitor map was released today (Thursday, July 29) and it continues to show worsening conditions in Wright County. For the first time, a portion of Wright County is now in the D3 Category (Extreme Drought) and the southern two-thirds of the county, which had been designated as D1 (Moderate Drought) as recently as last week has been moved to D2 (Severe Drought). The areas of Wright County included in the D3 designation are the Cities of Annandale, Clearwater and Maple Lake, as well as Clearwater, Corinna, Maple Lake (partial), Silver Creek and Southside Townships. For the purposes of comparison, a year ago at this time, none of Minnesota was listed in the D2 or D3 category, 8.31 percent was in the D1 category, 28.18 percent was in the D0 category (Abnormally Dry) and 71.82 percent of the state was listed as having no drought conditions. Currently, 22.06 percent of Minnesota is listed as in D4, 75.09 percent is D3 or worse, 97.88 percent is D1 or worse and 100 percent is D0 or worse. None of Minnesota is deemed as not having some form of drought, despite recent heavy isolated storms.
