Press release from the Downers Grove Park District: Wed July 28, 2021 Updated July 28, 2021 Within the past few days, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has updated its COVID-19 prevention guidance in light of the recent increase of infection rates and the spread of the Delta variant, and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has adopted these guidelines. On July 28, DuPage County moved to the "Substantial" level of community transmission and because of this, it is now recommended that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask in public indoor settings. Beginning July 29, the Downers Grove Park District will recommend that all individuals wear a mask while indoors at our facilities regardless of vaccination status. The District will require that all children ages 2 to 11 wear masks indoors. Currently, there is no change in masking guidance for outdoor public settings. The safety of our staff and participants remains a top priority. Following Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan, capacity limits are now lifted. The Downers Grove Park District recommends that face coverings be worn indoors AND outdoors for ALL program participants who are not fully vaccinated. The CDC recently announced that fully vaccinated adults no longer need to wear face coverings outdoors except in crowded situations. With this in mind and following current state guidelines, the Downers Grove Park District will continue to ask ALL program participants to adhere to the following safety guidelines (regardless of vaccination status): The Downers Grove Park District will continue to meet capacity requirements as outlined by state guidelines. To meet these requirements, the District will require the following until further notice: VIEW THE UPDAte sports update: april 16, 2021 The Park District has received several inquiries regarding the need to wear a mask while participating in sports activities. On Monday, April 12, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) in conjunction with the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) issued new guidelines for youth and adult sports but they changed the guidelines again on April 14 which has created some confusion. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Park District has taken the position that we will follow all guidelines that are put in place by the State of Illinois. This includes the current youth and adult sports guidelines. We will continue to monitor all of the State's guidelines and mitigation efforts for any changes and make updates if possible to our operation as they may occur. If patrons are on site and have any concerns regarding the adherence to these guidelines, there will be a Park District employee on site for any Park District programs that can address the concern. If there is a concern during an District affiliate run event, concerns should be reported to an affiliate representative. Concerns can also be reported by calling the District's Parks Hotline at 630-929-3136. UPDATE: March 24, 2021 Governor Pritzker recently announced that the State of Illinois will soon move to new Bridge to Phase 5 guidelines under the Restore Illinois Plan. We are anxiously awaiting this change, which will occur once 70% of residents 65 and older have been vaccinated and barring any reversals in our COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths for a 28-day monitoring period. The Park District continues to increase staffing, adjust operations and evaluate program offerings to provide as many recreation experiences as possible while following the state guidelines and remaining fiscally responsible. The State will continue to recommend masking for unvaccinated persons, and require it for all people while traveling on public transportation, in congregate settings, in health care settings, as well as in schools, day cares, and educational institutions pursuant to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and CDC guidance.
