BOLINGBROOK, IL — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Bolingbrook, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day in Valley View Community Unit School District 365U. The first day of school for most students in Bolingbrook is Aug. 19. Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change as the coronavirus pandemic nears its year-and-a-half point. A mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid learning is still possible in Bolingbrook. The district is planning a full, five-days-a-week return to the classroom this year. The Valley View district will only allow remote learning for students with significant health issues and students who need to quarantine from COVID-19 exposure, officials said recently. Last week, Superintendent Rachel Kinder said administrators are nearing a final decision on what the mask requirement will be for the district. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention announced this week that it is recommending that even fully vaccinated people should wear masks indoors in areas where positive cases are spiking due to the delta variant. Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its mask guidance to say students and staff at K-12 schools should mask up regardless of their vaccination status.
