So far, states have largely managed their own vaccination coordination efforts — and some have proven more efficient at it than others. In Ohio, 46.1% of the population are fully vaccinated, lower than the U.S. average. Lower than average vaccination rates in Ohio appear to be attributable in part to less efficient vaccination rollout. As of July 23, Ohio has received about 12,737,800 vaccinations and administered about 86.2% of those doses. As the virus mutates and new variants spread, vaccinating the population as rapidly as possible is critical. In total, there have been 1,119,298 confirmed cases of the virus in Ohio as of July 23 — or 9,575 for every 100,000 people.
