WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police have charged a man after he attacked two lifeguards at a private pool on Wednesday evening — the second such attack in the city so far this summer. Worcester police went to the pool at the Lincoln Village complex near 5:30 p.m. Wednesday after a report of a disturbance. The officers discovered that a group of young pool-goers had been asked to leave by lifeguards for being disobedient. A father of one of the young people intervened and began arguing with the lifeguards, police said. He pulled out a knife and swung it at a 17-year-old lifeguard, but he was able to dodge the weapon. The man then went to his car, got a baseball bat and returned to continue the attack. He swung at a 15-year-old lifeguard, but she was not hit. The man then smashed a glass door at the pool and left. Worcester police found the attacker nearby at a home along Liberty Street. The 42-year-old was arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and vandalism. On July 4, a 17-year-old lifeguard at Worcester's Bell Pond beach was stabbed and hit with a stick after warning a beach visitor to stop drinking and smoking. That man returned with three others to exact revenge, police said. All four suspects have been arrested and charged.
