This job is a full installation of the Samsung SHP-DH538 door lock.
I bought this off Amazon and didn't realize it couldn't be installed directly on my door because it has a mortise lock. My door doesn't have a rectangular cut-out for the mortise, so I need someone who has experience in installing this type of lock, specifically cutting the proper holes.
I would prefer a locksmith, but if you have done these many times before and will guarantee you won't ruin my door, then I can consider you for this gig. I have a regular handyman I use and he said he didn't have the right tools to cleanly make the mortise hole. He said it couldn't be done properly with a regular jigsaw. He suggested I find a locksmith.
The lock I bought is this one:
There's an installation video on YouTube:
These installation instructions assume a mortise hole (as seen at 15 and 40 seconds) is already in the door and on the door jam. They are not (see pictures). The door and sidelite are made of wood.
If the mortise hole were cut out, I could install this myself as I've installed several electronic door locks before that mount to a standard door handle hole. Everything else seen in the video, except for cutting holes in the door, I've done before, so I know it's not hard. Locksmiths want to much money to install this.
I feel $200 cash for a 1-2 hour job for someone experienced is very fair.
Important: I don't want to have to buy a new door if you don't know how to cut these types of holes. This is not a learning-on-the-job thing on my door. Please only message me if you have done this before and let me know your experience/qualifications for doing this gig.
This job is reposted as the last guy who was supposed to come had a family emergency.
