Description
My name is George, I’m 70 and retired, I live in Fountain Hill, and I want to learn to SING and PLAY in a band. Then I want our band to perform by playing at local Open Mic venues. After that, who knows what happens? We will play songs from the 50s and 60s and maybe some songs from the Country/Western/Americana/Roots genre.
I want to be CLEAR about one thing: Regarding my guitar-playing skills, I’m much closer to being a BEGINNER than an Intermediate player. And I’m attempting to recruit folks who are just like me. I don’t want you if you play great and you have 40 years of experience playing, etc. You’re not invited! Don’t waste your time responding to this post! I want to hear from old, retired folks who aspire to try something that they’ve never done before.
This “project” was born nearly two years ago. Three of us (guitar, bass, drums), all of us retired, met every Thursday afternoon to sing and play and to have fun. We had a blast! But then the virus came and we quit playing. We got our vaccinations this Spring and we started to make plans to get together again, but then the drummer had heart surgery and was forced to retire from drumming. Now, the two of us who remain want to Build a New Band.
I like to sing, I especially like to sing songs that have 2-part and 3-part harmonies. My voice isn’t that strong and I don’t have much range, but I CAN carry a tune in a bucket. I can scratch out some of the easy open chords on my guitar.
We want to start ASAP, but I’m not going to beg you. What do you say, boys and girls?
