Indigo harvesting and dyeing workshop in SE Portland! Join Mayumi Hasegawa in harvesting indigo leaves and dyeing cloth
Join Mayumi Hasegawa in harvesting indigo leaves and dyeing cloth in the Woodstock / Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood. Did you know indigo comes from leaves? How do green leaves end up as a deep blue color?
At this gathering, you will help harvest Japanese indigo leaves and dye a handkerchief or other small fabric (BYOF?) to take home. Learn about different methods to create dye from leaves and tidbits about traditional dyeing in Japan.
Mayumi has relocated to Portland with more than 20 years of experience in Japan in the leather industry, working as a designer, collaborating with established lineages of dyeing, leather tanning, indigo farming, and other artisan traditions. She relocated to Portland in late 2019 and has been growing Japanese indigo in her own garden since.
Limited to 6 people. $50 each. Woodstock / Brentwood-Darlington.
