This training provides an overview of Washington County behavioral health and crisis resources and addresses strategies for de-escalation
Our trainers will review procedures for emergency detention and involuntary hospitalization
, discuss how individuals with mental health and substance are overrepresented in the criminal justice system and ways to intervene, and provide concrete skills for identifying when individuals are highly stressed and how to verbally de-escalate stressful situations.
Facilitators:
Jay Auslander is the Forensics Systems Coordinator with Washington County Behavioral Health.
Jay has worked in the systems of behavioral health and criminal justice for over 20 years.
Jay is an experienced trainer to a variety of audiences on topics of mental health diagnostics and treatments, risk and violence assessment, system of care navigation, crisis management, and trauma-informed care.
Andrew Cartmill, B.S., CPS, has 35 years of experience in health education. He has presented to local and national audiences concerning health and the nature of substance use and gambling disorders. Since 1997, Andy has served as a Senior Program Communication and Education Specialist with Washington County and is responsible for education and outreach. Andy is a certified trainer for suicide intervention programs QPR (Question Persuade Refer) and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
