Description

Like riding a roller coaster, entrepreneurship can be both an exciting and a frightful experience. Like riding a roller coaster, entrepreneurship can be both an exciting and a frightful experience. The speed and the highs and lows experienced as an entrepreneur is not for everyone. But for those individuals who want to be a “difference maker” and wholeheartedly adopt an entrepreneurial mindset it can be truly a life changing experience. In this discussion we will talk about the mindset of entrepreneurs as independent individuals, intensely committed to persevering in starting and growing a venture. They are typically optimists who strive for success in their for-profit, non-profit, or social ventures. They often burn with the competitive desire to excel and use failure not as a referendum, but as a learning tool. In addition to having the right mindset, it is also important to have an approach of “customer discovery” where an entrepreneur can identify their set of target customers and the appropriate value proposition they can deliver to those customers. Kevin Wright- Kevin Wright has spent his career operating as an intrapreneur (someone who is an entrepreneur within a larger company), mentoring several entrepreneurial ventures, and as an educator teaching at NC State and Duke classes in entrepreneurship, strategy, innovation and the art of customer discovery. We will discuss some of the more significant elements of an entrepreneurial mindset (achievement, individualism, control, focus, optimism). In addition, we will cover how an entrepreneur can pragmatically begin their journey of customer discovery to identify their target customer(s).
