Description
STOUGHTON, MA — Stoughton police warned residents to watch out for phone scammers.
The Norfolk County Sheriff's Office alerted police to a group that's been calling Stoughton residents and claiming they are part of law enforcement.
Police said the scammers tell residents their loved ones are under arrest, or that there's a warrant out for their arrest. Scammers then tell residents they have to pay bail for their loved ones.
"Please know that this is a scam!" Stoughton police said in a statement on their Facebook page. "That is not how bail works in Massachusetts. Don't fall for it."
Residents that suspect someone is trying to scam them over the phone should hang up and immediately call Stoughton police at 781-344-2424.
