Recycle your empty potato chip bags this Saturday! My name is Jennifer Champion and I have a dear friend who is a missionary and the founder of Care Africa. This ministry helps people living in Egbe, Nigeria which is located in Africa. One of the things that Care Africa does is to assist women, mostly single mothers in Egbe provide for their family by teaching them a skill. When my friend told me about how they teach women to make things like clothing, shoes, jewelry and bags to sell in the Nigerian marketplace and on Care Africa's Etsy store, I got excited. This is such a wonderful way to do more that just give a handout. They are teaching women morals and business too! The money earned from the products they make go straight to the women that made them! How awesome is that! I am helping by doing something super simple but I can't do it alone. For a month I collected used, empty potato chip bags in all sizes to help with a project where the women cut the bags and the weave the strips into beautiful purses to sell. Many people contributed and I received a lot more bags than I thought I initially would. Some people even asked if this is something I did all year long. So, In inquired of my friend and she said yes! I am now collecting chip bags all year! Here are the details: Who: EVERYONE can help with this. IF you eat chips, then I need your bags. What: Empty Potato Chips Bags in ALL Sizes When: Ongoing Need Where: I live in Northport, AL so I will have my truck (a White Nissan) in the parking lot of the Northport Civic Center on Hwy 82/Hwy43 for chip bag drop-off every last Saturday of the month beginning in July from 10am-11am unless otherwise announced due to weather, emergencies etc. Dates are below: July 31 August 28 September 25 October 30 November 27 December 18 (Due to Christmas being the last Saturday)
