Myakka City Fire Control Looking For Commission Applicants

MYAKKA CITY, FL — Myakka City Fire Control District, which will soon merge with East Manatee Fire District, is accepting applications for two fire commission seats. Those selected will serve in these roles until the merger is complete Oct. 1, according to a Manatee County news release. These positions will not continue after the merger. Applications are due Aug. 6 and can be found online here. The fire board oversees the fire district and has the authority to spend money, incur debt and hire qualified fire personnel. The Myakka City Fire Control District was established in 1986 by a special act of the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners as a Manatee County Dependent Fire District. The district is located east of County Road 675 and extends east to the Desoto and Hardee county lines. It responds to more than 500 emergency calls annually, covering an area of 230 square miles, the county said.
