Framingham To Make ADA Pedestrian Upgrades With State Grant

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham was one of 77 communities across the state that earned a state transportation grant, which the city will use to make Americans with Disability Act (ADA) upgrades. The state handed out about $6.5 million in Shares Streets and Spaces awards last week. The state received about 94 applications in total for that round of funding. Framingham received $200,000, and will use the money to install ADA-compliant curbs and sidewalks along a 1/2-mile stretch of School Street from Hamilton Street to Old Connecticut Path. The Shared Streets and Spaces Grant Program began in June 2020 and was part of a response to the coronavirus pandemic. The grants have gone to upgrade infrastructure that allows state residents to get outdoors, either to exercise or for dining and other amenities. The program has funded over 300 projects since then with $33 million in funding.
