Puyallup Standoff Resolved Without Arrest

PUYALLUP, WA — A standoff situation in Pierce County has been resolved without an arrest. Just after 10 a.m., the Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that its crisis negotiation team was responding to an active situation in the 2200 block of 120th Street E. According to the Sheriff's Department's Sgt. Moss, officers were called to a home in that area after one family member reportedly threatened another with a gun. Once they arrived, however, the suspect barricaded himself inside the house and refused to leave. "We're trying to resolve this thing as quickly as we can, but unfortunately the person is not coming out," said Moss. The surrounding roads were blocked off, and the public was being asked to avoid the area. That is, until 11:15 a.m., when deputies withdrew. The Sheriff's Department says they were unable to contact the suspect, and decided the best course of action was to simply leave and investigate the incident further. We have attempted to contact the suspect with our deputies, our Crisis Negotiators and with our Mental Health Professionals (Co-Responders).
