WOODBRIDGE, NJ — There is a school board election every year in Woodbridge.
For 2021, three BOE seats are up for election:
The seat held by Daniel Harris (he is running for re-election)The seat held by Ezio Tamburello (he will not run for re-election and announced his retirement earlier this year)The seat held by Susan Bourdin (she is running for re-election) Harris, Bourdin and Yillian Jennifer Perez are running for the three seats and they are running as a slate, the Best Schools Around slate.
Thomas Maras is also running, unaffiliated with any slate. Amber Jarrett is also running. She is unaffiliated.
Background on the candidates:
Bourdin was part of the Woodbridge BOE's negotiations committee who unanimously voted against renewing former superintendent Bob Zega's contract earlier this year. She, along with Joseph Velez, AJ Sidana, Tamburello and Marie Anderson, all voted against keeping Zega as superintendent. Instead, they gave the top job of running the district to Joe Massimino.
Bourdin has previously declined to tell this Patch reporter why she voted against keeping Zega as superintendent.
Maras is known in town as a frequent critic of Mayor Mike McCormac and what he says is the overdevelopment of Woodbridge. He frequently posts on the Woodbridge Patch.
And Harris is the legislative director to New Jersey General Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, a top-ranking Democrat in Trenton.
