TOMS RIVER, NJ — The field for the Toms River Regional Board of Education race is once again extensive, with eight candidates seeking two, three-year terms in Toms River and two seeking the South Toms River seat. Incumbents Joseph Nardini and Jennifer Howe are seeking re-election to their Toms River seats. They are joined in the race by Robert Onofrietti Jr., Antonio Ellis, Lynn R. O'Toole, George M. Lobman, Anthony Melisi, and Rachel Remelgado. In South Toms River, incumbent Anna Polozzo is being challenged by Mary Guarin. Onofrietti, who was elected to the board in November 2014 and served as president during his term, sought re-election in 2017 unsuccessfully. He also ran in 2020 and was defeated. He is running under the "Unbought and Unbossed" slogan. Nardini, who is seeking his third term on the board, is running with Ellis under the slogan "Leadership Experience Values." Ellis is a Manchester police officer who spent more than 100 days hospitalized with COVID-19 before he finally came home. He has returned to work. O'Toole and Lobman are running together under the "Voice for Change" slogan. Lobman ran for the Toms River council in 2019 as a running mate of Councilman Dan Rodrick; O'Toole is president of the Holiday City Phase II board of trustees. Howe, who is seeking her second term, is running solo under the "Students Strength Service" slogan. Melisi is a newcomer and is running under the "Accountability for Kids" slogan. He is the owner of AMTEK HVAC in Bayville. Remelgado, who is running under the "For The Kids" slogan, ran unsuccessfully for the Toms River school board in 2020.
