NOVATO, CA — The Novato Unified School District will offer virtual independent study in the upcoming school year. The NUSD's Virtual Independent Study Program meets the requirements of a newly enactedstate law. California Assembly Bill 130 requires all school districts to offer remote independentstudy for the 2021-2022 school year, EdSource reports. The NUSD initiated a Virtual Learning Academy during the 2020-2021 academic year. The NUSD has for many years offered an independent study program through NOVA Independent Study at the Hill Education Center. The Virtual Independent Study program will be taught by credentialed NUSD teachers and willinclude daily live virtual learning in grades TK-8. For grades 9-12, virtual independent study will comprise of weekly meetings and liveinstruction. Field trips and opportunities for extracurricular activities will be available.
