By Steve Burger, WNIN July 28, 2021 With the Centers for Disease Control now recommending masks indoors for everyone, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status, is the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation planning to change its policy as a new school year approaches? The short answer, for now at least, is no. In a text exchange with EVSC spokesman Jason Woebkenberg Wednesday, he says that the EVSC is not going to require masks indoors for students and staff when school starts August 9th. EVSC superintendent David Smith said during a podcast last week that the corporation would follow CDC guidelines. Woebkenberg says their interpretation of the latest advisory from the CDC is that masks are recommended. He says it is the policy of the EVSC to strongly recommend that masks be worn, but they are not required. When asked whether the current high transmission levels in Vanderburgh and surrounding counties will prompt a change in that policy, Woebkenberg says they continue to collaborate with local health officials and will make any necessary adjustments.
