Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Some familiar faces may not be there to welcome kids back to school at several area elementary schools. The contract with the crossing guards has not been renewed. 25 crossing guards lost their jobs due to the change. Area schools are determining how they will keep kids safe without these resources. (FOX40) There is a growing concern about a homeless encampment on Lathrop Way in Sacramento. The businesses there say they are concerned for employee safety. The intersection of Lathrop Way and Commerce Circle was the scene of a homicide just last week, yet authorities can not move the encampment without a better alternative for the residents, per federal law. One city councilman is proposing a solution. (KCRA3) US News and World Report has once again named Sacramento's UC Davis Medical Center among the top 10 in California. Nationally, UC Davis Medical Center is ranked in the top 50 for nine adult specialty services, including cancer, cardiology, gynecology and geriatrics. (UC Davis Health)Company leaders rang the opening bell on Wall Street making Folsom-based PowerSchool the largest K-12 education software company in North America to have that honor. Headquartered in Folsom, the company employs more than 2,900 people and its products are utilized by 45 million students worldwide. This is a big moment for the Sacramento region as it showcases how well businesses, especially tech businesses, can thrive here. (KCRA3)The environmental impact report for a new bridge over the Sacramento River has been completed and leaders are looking to move forward with the project. The path of the bridge has been boiled down to two alternatives between Broadway in Sacramento and 15th Street in West Sacramento. The bridge has been designed to accommodate multiple forms of transportation including, eventually, a streetcar.
