UPMC CEO Jeffrey Romoff Stepping Down

PITTSBURGH, PA — UPMC CEO Jeffrey Romoff, who has led the city's largest health care conglomerate for nearly 30 years, is retiring as president and CEO effective Aug. 1. He will be succeeded by Leslie Davis, currently head of UPMC's Health Services Division. Romoff has helped grow UPMC into its current status as a $23 billion integrated health care delivery system that is Pennsylvania's largest non-governmental employer. Under his direction, UPMC has become a global integrated health care delivery system; its international expansion spans four continents with facilities in China, Italy, Ireland and Kazakhstan. "Under Jeff's leadership, UPMC has provided excellent and unmatched healthcare across our tri-state service territory and internationally," G. Nicholas Beckwith, chair of UPMC's board of directors. "He has led UPMC in developing new models of care and supported advanced research that has benefited our patients," said G. Nicholas Beckwith III, who chairs UPMC's board of directors. Romoff said he was proud to have led UPMC during a period of what he termed "exceptional growth." "We are now in a well-earned period of stability and success, having overcome challenges and grown into a fully integrated health care system," he said. "We now have a clear path to continue UPMC's extraordinary and unique trajectory with new leadership." Photo: UPMC. Davis has more than 30 years of health care experience. Before becoming head of the health services division, she served as president of UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland from 2014 to 2018. Before joining UPMC, Davis was president of Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, part of Tenet Healthcare Corp. She began her career at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City and spent 13 years with Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, serving in positions that included vice president of clinical affiliations and ambulatory programs.
