PHILADELPHIA — Five stowaways were detained after jumping ship at the port of Philadelphia this week, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Customers officials Monday got on a merchant vessel at the Port of Philadelphia for an "enforcement boarding," according to an agency spokesperson.
While on board, officers searched the vessel and spotted a stowaway.
When officers gave the stowaway commands, he and four others jumped into the water and swam to a dock, the spokesperson said.
All five were detained and received medical treatment, according to the spokesperson.
