Man Says He Was Attacked In Elmhurst Eatery: Cops

ELMHURST, IL — A DoorDash driver told police that he was attacked earlier this month in an Elmhurst restaurant while the owner watched, police said. Patch obtained the full report on the incident, which took place about 10 p.m. July 21 at Manny's Ale House, 683 St. Charles Road. According to the report, the driver said that when he arrived to pick up a food order at Manny's, the owner told him it was not ready and then the owner became upset. As the conversation became confrontational, the driver said he tried to record the incident with his phone camera. Then another man took his phone and someone else choked him, the report said. The driver was able to get back his phone, then left the building and called the police. Officers could not find any video of the incident on his phone. The driver later called the business and told the owner's brother that he would have his lawyer sue the restaurant, police said. An officer told the driver not to call the restaurant anymore or he would be arrested for harassment. In an interview with police, the owner said the driver entered the bar, acted disrespectfully and used foul language, according to the police report. The owner said he asked the driver to leave the bar area because of his bad attitude and poor language, police said. In response, the owner told police, the driver became irate, so a number of customers got up and tried to forcefully remove the driver from the business. An officer was able to identify the person who took the phone. The person was described to the officer as a "dude" who was "on some bull----." police said. The person admitted to taking the phone, but giving it back soon after, the report said. The owner did not want to sign any complaint against the driver, but asked for the driver to be served with a no-trespass notice, which police did.
