Description

DARIEN, IL — Next to Darien's Eisenhower Junior High on Park Avenue is a fenced-in paved area. On the pavement are containers with plants. It appears the plants are not well-tended. In a recent message to Patch, resident Jessica Crehan asked about the status of the site, which she called an "eyesore." On Wednesday, Patch reached out to Darien School District 61 Superintendent Robert Langman about the issue. He said it was a grant project that was set up in partnership with a community organization and the district a few years ago. "With the pandemic, this project seems to have fallen to the wayside with the organization that is tasked with maintaining the garden," Langman said in an email. "We are aware of the state of the garden and are reaching out to work with the community organization to determine how we can improve the grounds." He did not name the organization. Crehan said she looked forward to the garden coming back. "It's just disappointing that the mission behind the garden has fallen apart," she said in a message. "Gardens don't wait on pandemics, just as people don't put eating aside for pandemics. It will be nice to see it back up and running and fulfilling its mission and caring for the community."
