Parents/Teachers! Scholarship Offers from Local VFW and its Auxiliary As a representative of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Auxiliary, I am proud to announce the upcoming year’s VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship Award Program for High Schoolers; and the Patriots Pen Essay Program for Middle Schoolers. Each year the VFW and Auxiliary sponsors this program which is open to all (VOD) 9th through 12th grade students and (Patriots Pen) for grades 6th through 8th. Student’s essays are judged and "winners" are announced and awarded monetary scholarships at not only a local post level, but can also advance to district, state and national competitions. Last year, in the State of Texas the VFW awarded over $250,000 in scholarships for the VOD and $110,000 for Patriots Pen. I would be extremely honored if you would share this competition with anyone (parents, teachers, administrators, coworkers... anyone that is involved or has students that might be looking for scholarship opportunities). This is open to all home schooled students; private school students; as well as our public school students... There are some really easy requirements... they are: The Voice of Democracy Essay competition is open to 9th through 12th grade students. It gives these students a chance to voice their opinion on their responsibility to our nation. The 2021-2022 theme is "America: Where do we go from here? The essay should be written and/or typed and then should be recorded. The recorded essay should not be less than 3 minutes or more than 5 minutes in length, spoken in English and recorded on cassette or CD, with no background noise or enhancements. No name, school, city or state may be included within the body of the essay or on the recording. Official entry forms must accompany each winning entry. It gives these students a chance to voice their opinion on their responsibility to our nation. The 2021-2022 theme is "How Can I Be A Good American?" The essay should be written and/or typed. No name, school, city or state may be included within the body of the essay. The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief Official entry forms must accompany each winning entry.
