Description
Apparently, many posters here have yet to grasp the concept of logical fallacy, and ad hominem in particular.
Ad Hominem means only one thing... that you lost
If you think about and even state your opponent’s best points:
1. You are forced to think about the opponent’s best points and their potential validity.
2. This is the best way to sharpen your arguments.
3. The opponent who gets respect may show some to you.
4. The opponent knows that you have analyzed his/her arguments and may be forced to concede.
5. If there is a judge involved, you will be favored for the respect you show.
6. Stating your opponent’s argument with your own is likely to lead to compromise.
Conversely, if you engage in ad hominem vituperative argument, no winning substance is stated and your opponent will be more likely to become intransigent with no compromise possible.
