Description
Goucher College is seeking a full-time utility mechanic. Apply online: This is a highly customer service-oriented position reporting to the manager of grounds, in the Facilities Management Department. This position will be responsible for executing tasks to fulfill the diverse needs of our growing campus environment to include driving a Goucher College vehicle to fulfill the requests by our campus community assigned to the Grounds Department; inspecting designated areas of campus buildings for lights that are out and replacing bulbs/lamps accordingly to make repair; and assisting in the maintenance of the campus grounds including but not limited to trash clean up, removal of debris, limbs, leaves from the grounds, planting of flowers, trees and shrubs, weed removal out of beds, cleaning drains and keeping rain spouts of flat roofs free of debris, athletic field maintenance and snow removal as required. The utility mechanic will operate various equipment and power equipment including but not limited to weed eaters, power edgers, power mowers, sprayers, water wheel, field paint machine, snow blower, hand tools, ladders and related maintenance equipment as required. The utility mechanic will also fulfill requests for the set up and break down for campus events and moving tables, chairs, desks, boxes, beds, dressers, wardrobes, lights, and various types of office equipment and furniture to complete assigned work orders. Qualified candidates will possess a high school diploma or equivalency, a valid Class A CDL with P endorsement (or the ability to obtain the CDL with P endorsement within 6 months of hire), as well as a valid DOT physical card for the duration of employment. This position requires effective communication skills, strong customer service orientation, and strong attention to detail. Candidates must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including on-call, weekend and evening hours, if needed. This position is considered essential personnel, as such the successful candidate will be required to report to work regardless of the Campus's status. Depending on task assignment, there will be frequent standing, walking, bending, carrying, pushing and pulling, occasional kneeling, climbing and working with arms extended above should height. Successful candidates must be able to lift 50 - 75 pounds on a regular basis. A background check, driving record check, and physical examination will be required as a condition of employment.
