ISO cat friendly small dog

I'm in search of a small, adult (preferred) dog that is cat friendly and suited for an apartment. Housebroken a must. Chill as well. They'll get plenty of exercise, I love to walk and I walk downtown daily. But, I work four 10 hour shifts a week. I want someone to keep my cat company and to go on walks with me. Breed is unimportant, but I'm not paying a thousand bucks for a mutt, ie. any so-called designer dog. Don't get me wrong, I love mutts, best dogs in the world, but don't go breeding expensive pure breeds with any other breed and expect to get high dollar when all you've done is create another mutt. Cat and dog would have to meet before any decision is made. If you don't have a dog but have a lead on one, I'd love to hear from you as well.
