Job Description: The main task of an irrigation technician is to maintain the irrigation equipment assigned to him or in a specific area. This equipment can include sprinklers, water lines, pumps, suction devices, valves and other plumbing equipment. Irrigation technicians spend many of their working hours outside in the open air in all temperatures and conditions. The position requires bending and stooping, especially when maintaining in-ground irrigation systems, so candidates should be in good physical shape. Qualifications: • Valid Driver License with clean record • Minimum of one-year work related experience • Spanish/English Speaking • Must be efficient with strong attention to detail Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems. • Responsible for the installation of time clocks that operate irrigation systems. • Responsible for making necessary repairs and adjustments to maintain all systems in proper working condition. • May compile and submit reports and records on conditions of all systems. • Responsible for the inventory of parts, supplies and equipment of irrigation systems. • Conducts regular system inspections and performs trouble shooting exercise. • Performs any assigned duty before, during and after a declared emergency. • Performs related work as required and as directed. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills • Considerable knowledge in the field of irrigation, installation, maintenance and repairs. • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of the proper use of safety practices • Ability to diagnose problems with electrical meters and pumps; necessary repairs and adjustments to maintain all systems in proper working conditions. • Ability to install time clocks that operate irrigation systems. • Ability to maintain records and submit reports on conditions of all irrigation systems. • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evenings, as required. • Ability to assist in supervising work crew, as directed.
