Epsilon Chapter, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity Resident Director Position Description 2021-2022 Academic Year Position Purpose: To provide oversight of Delta Sigma Phi, Epsilon Chapter House and assist the Alumni Advisors, and House Corporation members in supporting the operation of the chapter in this facility. Contract Term: August 20, 2021, through May 17, 2022, or after summer house closure. Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week. Actual time commitments will vary week to week. The months of August and May involve a heavier time commitment for opening and closing of the house, but conversely, work hours are much less during the fall, winter and early spring. Housing Schedule: The Chapter House will be open during the Fall and Spring semester. The dates will normally coincide with the PSU school calendar. The Chapter House will close during the official PSU winter & summer break. The Resident Director (RD) is expected to be present and/or nearby when the house is open. RD may live on premises during winter & summer break, but no meals will be served during that period. Time Away: Every RD receives 10 days’ vacation. Prior approval is required for all time away. Time away for academic activities will not count against a RD’s time away. All other time away for professional conferences, job interviews, etc. will require the use of time away. Supervision: Co-supervised by Chapter Advisor and Alumni Control Board. Remuneration: Compensation is as follows: 1) Free Room and Board (during Fall and Spring semester) 2) All utilities, including WiFi will be provided at no charge. 3) On-site Parking is available at no cost to the RD, 4) The RD, with prior approval, may also reside on premises during fraternity closure, but no food will be provided during that time period. 5) RD will be assigned a bedroom upstairs & will have access to the Alumni Room for privacy and personal recreation. General Responsibilities: 1) Attend Chapter meetings on a regular basis to make announcements and maintain a visible staff presence. 2) In general, the RD’s role is not to enforce house rules, but to observe and request compliance when an infraction or unsafe behavior occurs. These infractions should be reported to the Chapter Advisor. 3) The ability to ascend/descend stairs to access all areas of the facility is an essential function of this position. 4) Conduct a daily walk-through of all common areas & outside around the building. Report any observed damage, water leaks, debris etc. 5) Ensure that the house cleaning contractor and caterer are fulfilling their responsibilities. Notify the Chapter Advisor if found otherwise. 6) Perform additional duties on occasion as requested by the Chapter Advisor. Weekdays: RD is not required to be at the facility during traditional workday hours. Weekends and events: On weekends, the RD is to be available (within 20 minutes travel time) of the Fraternity. During parties or other major events, the RD is expected to be on the premises to observe that rules and proper conduct are followed. During: During the event, RDs will stop in at the house in an unobtrusive/ supportive way, doing a quick check to verify that all is safe and verify that the event is operating within house rules. Visits should be conducted throughout the event, at least every 1-2 hours. Post-Event: Post inspection should be done at the end of the event. If a late-night event, please inspect first thing the following morning.
