A coordinated, multi-disciplinary training program developed through the Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) available for all emergency responders and those supporting Traffic Incident Management operations. This training puts police, firefighters, state and local departments of transportation, towing, medical personnel, and other incident responders on the same page, leading to a safer, faster, integrated responder team.

VDOT's Northwest Regional Incident Management Coordinator facilitates the promotion and promulgation of the NUG concepts at existing local TIM's groups and creates new groups where none previously existed. The RIMC also facilitates SHRP2 training to the regional first responders and communicates openly of "Best Practices" used in other jurisdictions of safe, quick clearance concepts and operational aspects. Collaboration with the Department of Transportation and Emergency Service partners in support of improved communications before, during and after emergencies to improve and enhance interoperability.
