Artist's Talk/Presentation with Maria GianniniTuesday, Oct 12, 2021 (5:30 PM)Virginia Humanities at Dairy Central946 Grady Ave, Charlottesville, VAMaria Giannini will present an overview of her family’s bookbinding legacy and how she, as the 6th generation, is translating this legacy into her own creative work. Maria is heir to the culture of making and the artisan tradition that has characterized the Giannini family for nearly two centuries, she looks to the contemporary and the future of the company, carrying on a constant dialogue between tradition and innovation. Founded in 1856 the artisan workshop Giulio Giannini e Figlio continues a tradition spanning six generations of family members. Known worldwide for its high-quality hand-tooled leather book bindings, the Giannini family also produces items such as marbleized paper, decorated paper printed with traditional folk designs, greeting cards, and a variety of objects made to order. Note: While there is no charge, advance reservations are required for this event! Also: Please arrive prior to the 5:30 program start for access to the Virginia Humanities office space. COVID Vaccination & Masking Policy: It is the Virginia Center for the Book’s expectation that all program attendees will be vaccinated. Participants may mask or unmask as they feel comfortable.
