Watch for people who look like they can't even afford the dogs they breed. If they can't even take a picture somewhere nice and their house/area looks like a trash dump while the price for the animal they're selling is over $50, there is usually something wrong with the puppy. Weaker, mentally unsound, aggressive, and sicker dogs are sold cheaper even if they're purebred, and asholes will breed the sick parents to make a quick buck off sick puppies. You end up spending $300+ for something that will die in a week, or need constant medical care. Pictures are for example but were taken off actual postings I saw tonight, don't buy expensive pets from people who live in a $hithole and check the area code on the phone number - I tried to buy a poodle from someone claiming to live in Sacramento, and they kept saying they were out of town until (date given) and when that date came I would ask if they were back yet, they'd say no but ask for a deposit "if I really wanted the puppy". It's BS. The person's area code was from Louisiana, they were running a scam and law enforcement doesn't go after scams from other states so you would be SOL unless you found out their legal name and pursued it in court.
