The Annual Iris Rhizome Sale is your chance to purchase local iris rhizomes from the private gardens of the members of the iris society! Mark your calendars! The Monterey Bay Iris Society is having its Annual Iris Rhizome Sale at the Aptos Farmers Market at Cabrillo College on two Saturdays, August 7 and 14. This is your chance to purchase some beautiful healthy iris rhizomes from the private gardens of the members of the Monterey Bay Iris Society, including rhizomes from the coveted collection of the world-renowned, prolific iris hybridizer, Joe Ghio. There will also be an excellent selection of tall bearded iris, re-blooming iris, and historic iris. The rhizomes are $4.00 each or 20 for $60.00. Expert iris growers will be on hand to help you with your selection and will have printed handouts about how to grow iris. Since we have to ration our water in the Santa Cruz area, irises are an excellent choice for our gardens because they are drought tolerant. They bloom in the spring and need very little water in the summer. This sale is very popular so arrive early to for the best selection.
