Description

Southside Community Center, 305 South Plain Street, Ithaca, NY 14850 Saturday, August 7th @ 6pm EST On August 7th, cities and organizations across New York State are joining forces to oppose discriminatory "police reform" proposals ordered by Governor Cuomo from local governments and law enforcement agencies. This statewide, Black-led initiative is in alignment with the tradition and spirit of “Black August”—a month-long period of reverence, reflection, and resistance “honoring political prisoners, freedom fighters, and martyrs” committed to the liberation of Black people and all victims of state violence, over-policing, surveillance, and mass incarceration. The Black August New York Statewide Day of Action seeks to prioritize and promote abolition and alternatives to policing over hollow and ineffective police reforms.
