Estate Gardener for Private Residence - Benefits Included

The Gardener will perform general hands-on gardening services for the exterior of a large, private residential property on two acres. This is a full-time, live-out position and the schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. The Gardener reports to the Principals. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES Maintain gardens and lawns, including planting, fertilizing, weeding, soil conditioning, mulching and applying pesticides, mowing and edging.  Trim small tress, hedges and shrubs.  Operate and maintain garden and landscaping equipment.  Install and maintain sprinkler and irrigation systems; feed and water plants.  Tend to daily needs of walkways, parking areas and water features. This includes leaf blowing, cleaning bird droppings, sweeping, cobwebbing, etc. Maintain raised vegetable, herb and flower gardens and fruit trees. Clean gutters. Perform cleaning duties including (but not limited to) window washing and cleaning exterior furniture. Daily dog poop removal. Bring garbage cans to the curb on specified day of the week and bring the cans in the day after. Report necessary repair work promptly to be done by outside vendors to the Principals. Monitor pathways, stairs, outdoor seating and other outside structures for potential safety hazards. Prepare outdoor areas for various weather conditions by weatherproofing, covering outdoor furniture with tarps, tying down unsecured items, etc. Operate and maintain garden and landscaping equipment. Interface/work with landscaping and pool service. Clean exterior hardscapes on an on-going basis. Maintain all tools and equipment in proper condition. Visually inspect the exterior of buildings and grounds in the course of daily work and report anything in need of repair or replacement, including fountains, fencing, outdoor furniture Perform specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by Principals. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Five plus years of hands-on experience as a gardener; prefer experience on a large private estate. Familiarity with sprinkler systems and other landscaping equipment. Knowledge of plants, shrubs and trees. Knowledge of proper use of fertilizers, soil conditioners and pesticides. Ability to safely operate motorized equipment, including lawn mowers. Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain or smoke. Ability to read and speak English language sufficiently to understand written and/or verbal work orders or instructions. Good time-management skills; ability to organize and manage multiple projects. Self-motivated, organized and is detailed oriented. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and positive attitude. Flexibility required to handle occasional emergencies. Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Ability to maintain a high level of strict confidentiality and professionalism. Must be comfortable around dogs. Must be authorized to work legally in the United States. Successfully complete an in-depth background investigation, including a cyber/social media risk evaluation Must have a valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record.
