Wauwatosa's New School Superintendent Slates Listening Sessions

WAUWATOSA, WI — The Wauwatosa School District announced Monday a listening session tour with new Superintendent Demond Means at different Wauwatosa schools starting in late summer. The first listening session will take place at Madison Elementary School, 9925 W. Glendale Ave., at 6 p.m., according to the district website. Each session will last 90 minutes and include a brief presentation from Means, followed by small group discussions and time for sharing key takeaways, the district said in a statement. Staff, students, families and other nondistrict-affiliated people were encouraged to attend, the district added. "No one appreciates being told what is going to happen to their collective educational community," Means told Patch. "It is important for me as a superintendent to listen to what stakeholders believe we can achieve together as a school system." Information from the listening sessions will go into a report to be shared with the community, Means said. "We will utilize that information to guide our action plan for what the community wants to see us do," he said. The Wauwatosa School Board elected Means, 49, in late April. He officially started his job on July 1, he said. Means earned a doctorate in education from Cardinal Stritch University in 2005, a master's degree in education from Cardinal Stritch in 1997 and a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Concordia University in 1994, he said.
