MILFORD, CT — The community is rallying around the family of a man who was shot to death early Saturday morning in Milford.
The shooting happened around 6 a.m. on Housatonic Avenue after a man entered the home and confronted two residents there, according to police. The shooting victim, later identified as Chaz Wright, was pronounced dead, police said.
After the shooting, the man believed to be the shooter ran from the home to a nearby vehicle and left the city. He was found a short time later by Stamford police, but shot himself before he could be taken into custody, police said.
Police identified the shooter as Durim Berisha, who was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital on Sunday.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched Monday in support of Wright's family. The fundraiser is being organized by Chelsea Meehan on behalf of Brittani D'Andrea, according to the page.
"It is with great sadness and disbelief that we share the tragic passing of Chaz Wright, who was robbed of his life by a senseless act of violence," reads a post on the GoFundMe page. "Chaz leaves behind a three year old son, Logan. Brittani now faces the task of being the sole caregiver and the family is in need of any and all support we can give while they grieve."
The campaign has raised more than $6,700 within the first day, as of Tuesday afternoon.
