HILLCREST HEIGHTS, MD — Officials said three children died July 19 after a Hillcrest Heights fire. Each child was less than 12 years old, an incident report clarified. Authorities did not identify the victims. Another occupant went to an unnamed hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department noted. A firefighter also went to an unidentified hospital with minor burns, the department added. Fire officials explained that the blaze displaced two adults and one child. The Prince George's County Office of Emergency Management will assist those residents, a write-up informed. Crews shared that they pulled two people from the blaze. Another three occupants self-evacuated from the two-story townhome, a tweet indicated. Firefighters stated that they eventually extinguished the flames. Fire officials reported that they are conducting a joint investigation with the Prince George's County Police Department. After sunrise, the fire department announced that it returned to the neighborhood to install smoke detectors in homes with no alarms or outdated signals. Officials mentioned that they hung more than 40 units. Today #PGFD crews returned to Iverson St where a fire claimed the lives of three children.
