EAST HAVEN, CT — The East Haven Democratic Town Committee nominated Mayor Joseph A. Carfora to seek a second term Monday night. The committee also nominated Lisa Balter to run for the office of East Haven Town Clerk. In candidate statements provided to Patch, Carfora said he is "proud of what has been accomplished" in his two-year term but noted, "there is still a great deal of work to be done." "Two years ago, we sat in this same building and assembled a team that loves our town and wanted to improve the quality of lives for those who call it home," his statement reads. "What we anticipated when I first took office and what we actually faced was far more extreme than what we could have imagined. We faced far more difficult and quite frankly upsetting financial and infrastructure issues. My team and many in this room tonight rolled up their sleeves and got to work." Carfora noted that navigating through the coronavirus pandemic posed an unexpected and unprecedented challenge. "Then three months into my term, we were hit with a global pandemic that brought the country to its knees and our town faced unprecedented times," he said. "I was grateful to have a superior slate of elected officials to support and help navigate our town during this dark period of time. I am proud to say that our town has come out stronger and more unified from this pandemic. " Also nominated Monday was Balter for the position of Town Clerk. "My many years in banking management and leading teams where I trained them to be better than even they thought they could be will elevate the Town Clerk's office in ways that have never been seen before," her statement reads. "I am ready to carry out this job on day one."
