Press release from Shreve Memorial Library: July 27, 2021 Shreve Memorial Library's Virtual Author Chat Series returns this fall. Taking place on the first Thursday of each month, Shreve Memorial Library's Virtual Author Chat series is a way for local and national authors to share their works and interact with library patrons. The library will welcome educators Constance McKinsey Neal and Dr. Tyrone Burton as its guests for the first two author chats of the series. On Thursday, August 5, veteran educator Constance McKinsey Neal joins the library to discuss her book, I Need a Parent Not a Friend. Neal, who has worked with students of all ages for over 20 years, is a Parenting Empowerment Coach. She has experience in the mental health field providing counseling as a Provisional Licensed Counselor and Provisional Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. Her book, I Need a Parent Not a Friend, covers different styles of parenting and communication, how to set rules and manage expectations, consequences to improving behavior, and work with children with special needs. The book includes an interactive workbook that can be used for goal setting and monitoring child development. Esteemed educator and Distinguished Principal Tyrone D. Burton, Ed.D. will join the library's author chat on Thursday, September 2. Dr. Burton retired from Caddo Parish Schools in 2017 as a Distinguished Principal, and over his tenure, developed twenty-four educators that advanced to various positions within the local school board and the State Department of Education. He went on to work with the Rensselaerville Institute, an educational think tank based in Albany, New York, and currently serves as a Turnaround Specialist. Dr. Burton esteems the Principalship as one of the most rewarding and challenging positions in the vast field of education. Over time, he learned that the Principalship is truly more than a notion and that leadership is not for the faint of heart. His book, More Than a Notion, addresses issues relevant to educational leaders in the age of accountability. Both Author Chats will begin at 6:00 p.m. and take place via Zoom. Shreve Memorial Library Public Relations Coordinator, Ivy Woodard, serve as moderator. Those interested in attending either author chat can register online via the library's web calendar or at https://bit.ly/SMLChats21. This press release was produced by Shreve Memorial Library.
