LONG VALLEY, NJ — The Washington Township Schools Board of Education will have a contested election this fall. Five candidates filed to run in total for three available, three-year seats.The candidates for these seats are: Carmine CapogrossoJose LourencoCindy Field RuggieroWalter CurioniRobert A. Waskis Jr.Capogrosso, Lourenco and Justin Kinney's seats are expiring at the end of 2021. John J. Sheppard and Armand Czapkowski filed to run uncontested for three-year terms on the West Morris Regional Board of Education, with Sheppard already serving on the board. The contested school board race adds another layer to Washington Township's already eventful election season for Washington Township Committee seats. Incumbent Republicans Kenneth W. Short and Kenneth William Roehrich held onto their seats in the Republican primary, prevailing against challenger Joanne Schlesinger. In the General Election, Short and Roehrich are expected to face Michael Brunken, the Democratic nominee who ran uncontested in the primary, vying for one of their seats.
