Press release from the City of Omaha: July 27, 2021 Lake Cunningham will reopen on August 5, with $23 million in improvements. "We are so excited for the community to come and enjoy the lake and recreation area again," said Brook Bench, Executive Director of the Lake Cunningham Development Trust. "We hope that people are pleased with the efforts of this project and its renovations. Our staff will continue to pursue the best ways we can serve parkgoers and enhance the park experience for all." After the recent launch of Lake Cunningham's brand and website, encouraging people to come "Explore the C!", Lake Cunningham is now accepting online booking for campground reservations for dates beginning Thursday, August 5th. The "East C Campground" has 42 new campground stalls complete with water, power, and sanitary at each pad as well as a new bathhouse facility. The "West C Campground" has 41 upgraded camping stalls in the existing campground with upgrades to the current bathhouse and advances to the electrical from 20 to 50 amplification. There are 17 tent camping spots. New grills and firepits will accompany all of the campground stalls. Cunningham campers will also have the opportunity to experience kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals and classes. In Lake Cunningham's efforts to "Keep the C Clean", Lake Cunningham's staff will also be offering voluntary boat cleaning services beginning when the park opens, August 5th at 12 pm. The boat wash station will be located at Entrance #1 (marina) during the following specified dates and times: Thursday, August 5th: 12 pm - 8:30 pm Friday, August 6th: 10 am - 4 pm Saturday, August 7th: 8 am – 2 pm Sunday, August 8th: 8 am - 2 pm The public boat ramp will be open for use during park hours from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. All visitors are welcome to this complimentary service. "We are already brainstorming new projects and ideas for future years to continue activation for the park," said Bench, "We want to be able to provide a fun, safe, and unique Lake Cunningham experience. We encourage everyone to Come Explore the C!" There will be a small evening opening celebration for the park from 4-7p.m. on August 5. The event will take place at the green and white lighthouse, located in the marina area of the park. People are encouraged to park in the parking lot at Entrance #1 (8965 State Street) and walk to the marina area. The opening celebration will include food trucks, community partners, DJ, activities, and giveaways. ABOUT LAKE CUNNINGHAM Lake Cunningham is a 390-acre lake surrounded by a 1,050-acre park located in north-central Omaha at 8660 Lake Cunningham Road. The lake was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and recreation and opened to the public in 1977. The Lake Cunningham redevelopment project began in 2017 when donors and community members recognized the need for an updated park and formed the Lake Cunningham Development Trust.
