LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A man is dead after being hit by a Metra train north of Libertyville Tuesday. Train 2103 struck the person, who has not yet been identified, shortly after 8 a.m., according to the Metra website. The man was hit by an outbound train on the Metra tracks north of Winchester Road between Milwaukee Avenue and Butterfield Road. Metra officials told the Daily Herald the man was standing on the track when he was hit by train not long after the train departed the Libertyville station. The train was headed for Fox Lake. An investigation is ongoing by Metra police and the Lake County Coroner's Office.
