JOLIET, IL — Joliet police announced the arrest of a 28-year-old man in connection with a home invasion and beating that happened in the 400 block of Western Avenue on July 16.
Dawson Abbitt was arrested around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of North Broadway Street in connection with the attack 11 days ago.
According to Joliet police, officers responded to a home invasion around 1:10 a.m. on July 16.
"Officers determined that a male suspect had entered the residence by forcefully opening the front door," according to Joliet police reports. "The suspect then jumped on the male victim while he was still in bed and began repeatedly punching the victim in the face. The suspect then fled from the residence and 911 was called."
In the days that followed, Joliet police detectives identified Abbitt as their prime suspect. Then, early Tuesday morning, he was arrested on Broadway Street without any problems, police said.
Although Joliet police identify Abbitt as a Joliet resident, Will County Jail records listed him as a Morris resident who lives on Oak Street in that community.
