Press release from The American Cancer Society: July 27, 2021 The American Cancer Society (ACS) held its 40th Annual Windy City Golf Open with title sponsor Wintrust at North Shore Golf Club in Glenview, Illinois on June 21, 2021. American Cancer Society partnered with Honoree Ken Serwinski and financial holdings organization Wintrust to bring over 150 Golfers together to celebrate 40 years of raising awareness. Throughout the day golfers were able to play their own ball at the recently renovated North Shore Country Club's golf course, one of the most prestigious country clubs in the Chicago area. "I have lost family and friends to cancer, but it became personal when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and later Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. It's a scary proposition not knowing what to expect during treatment and after," said Ken Serwinski, Chairman of the Windy City Golf Open. "The American Cancer Society is a fantastic source of good information and support and their commitment to funding research gives me the assurance that we will find a cure in the not so distant future." Wintrust, a financial company based in the Chicagoland area, is proud to be a sponsor of this event. "We wanted to send a message through our event that those facing cancer will have less comprehensive support unless we continue to show up and do something," said Russ Larsen, CEO of Village Bank & Trust, N.A., a division of Wintrust. "Cancer hasn't stopped, so neither will we. Our golfers and supporters made sure of that." "Cancer is relentless, but so are the many volunteer leaders who have a dream – that cancer can be a thing of the past," said Peter Steele, Vice President of the American Cancer Society. "For 40 years, the Windy City Golf Open has brought the community together in solidarity against cancer – to ensure cancer doesn't win." Since the event's inception, participants and sponsors have raised more than $2.5 million to fund research and patient support services. The success of this event could not be possible without individual and corporate sponsors. For more information about those sponsors, please visit www.acswindycitygolfopen.org.
