UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Next time you're hitting Whole Foods at West 97th Street and Columbus with a shopping list or just strolling around the neighborhood, keep an eye out for the new artwork by students of an Upper West Side elementary school. Over 150 pieces of artwork created by kindergarten through fifth-grade students at P.S. 163 were recently hung up on the windows of the Columbus Avenue Whole Foods. The art will be up until Aug. 4. Photo courtesy of Dariusz Zawislak 'In a situation where, due to a pandemic, schools cannot invite parents and guests inside the building, the idea of using the space of a partner who also has the appropriate cubature and brilliantly suitable windows gallery was the best possible option," Darius Zawislak told Patch, an art teacher at P.S. 163. "The store staff was also very positive about the project and helpful in its implementation. On behalf of the students, I would like to thank the Whole Foods Market team for the opportunity to present Art Show." Zawislak says the students drew inspiration from artists Piet Mondrian, Mark Rothko, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, and more. You can find out more about the art exhibit on a Facebook page for the event.
