Description

WOBURN, MA — The Woburn Fire Department is getting closing to taking home a new heavy rescue truck. According to the fire department, several of its firefighters are in Appleton, Wisconsin this week at Pierce Manufacturing, which specializes in custom fire truck manufacturing and fire apparatus, going over the pre-build for their new heavy rescue truck. The Woburn Fire Department is using a FEMA grant it received last year to purchase the truck. The fire department was one of 221 nationwide to win grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance To Firefighters Grant program in Aug. 2020. It was awarded a $545,454 federal grant for a heavy rescue truck. Since 2001, FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grants has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
