Summary
Assist the Crew Chief with collection of survey data to produce an accurate survey in a timely manner. Cutting and clearing brush from survey lines, loading & unloading equipment required for the survey, assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes, marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other marks, assists in measuring between points, places stakes at designated points and specified elevations, assist in measuring between points, assists in operating all survey equipment including: Total Station, GPS Data collector.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Compile information necessary to stake projects for construction, using engineering plans.
• Direct and supervise work of subordinate members of surveying parties.
• Lay out grids, and determine horizontal and vertical controls.
• Maintain equipment and vehicles used by surveying crews.
• Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, and stacking rods.
• Place and hold measuring tapes when electronic distance-measuring equipment is not used.
• Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
• Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings.
• Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
• Set out and recover stakes, marks, and other monumentation.
• Run rods for benches and cross-section elevations.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
HS Diploma or GED

• Able to pay close attention to detail
• Basic literacy with electronics equipment
• Able to perform job duties continually in an outdoor environment and in varying weather conditions, including harsh climates
• Able to perform job duties in various terrains, including urban environments, swamps, woods, construction sites
